Breast lift surgery

DEFINITION:

This surgery lifts the breasts, with or without the help of a breast implant, depending on the amount of breast tissue and the patient's preferences. It is suitable for women who have sagging or empty breasts for a number of reasons, including pregnancy, breast-feeding, weight fluctuations, etc.

This surgery does not affect breast-feeding capacity and it does not interfere with subsequent radiological tests.

DESCRIPTION:

The surgery involves removing excess breast skin to fit the actual volume of the chest and, in some cases, the placement of a prosthesis to provide volume. It can also be combined with a breast reduction in cases where the breast volume is excessive.

Mastopexy is usually performed under local anesthesia and sedation, although in some cases it is done under general anesthesia. The procedure lasts between 2 and 3 hours and requires the patient to be in the hospital about 24 hours. This procedure involves only a circular scar in the areola.

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Patients should undergo a preliminary analysis to evaluate the characteristics of the person and decide the size, position, the final shape of the breast and if necessary to use implants.

Furthermore, they must undergo a standard preoperative study that includes blood tests, electrocardiogram, etc.

Also, if they have any chronic illness or regularly take medications, especially anticoagulants, they should inform the surgeon before surgery.

Patients will be released from hospital wearing a bandage that must keep dry for three to four days. This will be replaced by a close fitting non-underwired sports bra with front fastening that patients must wear at all times for one month, even when sleeping.

We advise a recovery period of around 10 days, although for jobs that require the arms or more considerable strength, it is better to wait two full weeks
