Dacriocistorrinostomy (laser surgery)

Dacryocystorhinostomy surgery is indicated to resolve lachrymal obstructions through the nostril. This action affects the specialties of otolaryngology and ophthalmology.

This procedure can be done by an external approach or by a transcanalicular diode laser (DCRTC).

Dacryocystorhinostomy is performed on an outpatient basis and usually under local anesthesia. It involves the creation of a new way to bring tears out from the tear points of the eye to the nose, overcoming the existing obstacles.

Laser surgery allows us to re-channel the tear duct without there being any need to make incisions in the skin and it significantly reduces the recovery time.

Patients should undergo an ophthalmic study to evaluate their case

Also, if they have any chronic illness or regularly take medications, especially anticoagulants, they should inform the surgeon before surgery.

Patients may have pain in the nostril and the eye region during the first days after the surgery. Hematomas may also appear on the face with outside surgery but they will be reabsorbed during the following days. In case of laser surgery, patients usually do not have hematomas.

All patients are probed by the tear duct so it is recommended that the cures are performed in the clinic and in cooperation with the otologist.
