Bilateral hydrocele repair

DEFINITION:

Hydrocele repair is surgery to correct the swelling of the scrotum that occurs when you have a hydrocele. A hydrocele is the backup of fluid around a testicle.

Hydroceles are fairly common. It can occur in baby boys or in older boys and men. Hydroceles often go away on their own in children, but not in adults.

DESCRIPTION:

Surgery to repair a hydrocele is often done with general anesthesia. Pacients should stay 24 hours in the hospital.

In adults, the cut is usually made on the scrotum. The surgeon then drains the fluid after removing part of the hydrocele sac.

In a baby or child, sometimes the surgeon uses a laparoscope to do this procedure

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Patients should undergo a preliminary test to evaluate the specific characteristics of their intervention.
Furthermore, they must undergo a standard preoperative study that includes blood tests, electrocardiogram, etc.

Also, if they have any chronic illness or regularly take medications, especially anticoagulants, they should inform the surgeon before surgery.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE

The first two days after the operation, the patient must wear a compression bandage in the area. During the first week they should use a tight underwear. After one week, patients can resume normal activity.
